In 2014, NPV acquired the decayed building that formerly housed Denmark’s Aquarium, which was at the time located on a rented plot. In 2024, NPV bought the plot and based on a new local development plan, developed a comprehensive renovation and reconstruction project, for which a building permit has been granted. 

Also in 2024, NPV sold Akvariet to Fournais Holding A/S, owned by the CEO and founder of SAXO BANK, Kim Fournais. The sale included the extensive and approved development project.

Akvariet has been a “con amore” project for NPV, since the historical building is placed next to NPV’s head quarter in Charlottenlund. However, with the sale to Fournais Holding A/S, Akvariet has found a new visionary and equally ambitious owner. This owner recognizes the property’s and project’s qualities and possesses the necessary resources for the execution of the project. Therefore, NPV is confident that Gentofte Municipality is looking forward to a future with a new, inviting, and unique cultural center located at Charlottenlund Slotshave, based on the previously developed project.

Akvariet’s unique location in Charlottenlund Slotshave, with views of Øresund and surrounded by forest, calls for an equally unique project.

NPV’s vision was to carry out a renovation and reconstruction of Akvariet while respecting the existing building’s valuable elements and architectural significance, so that the future development would appear as a cohesive complex that honors the past.

Akvariet is intended to be a space for all things related to wellness and movement, while also serving as a venue for cultural activities, events, and dining that brings people together. With intended public access, Akvariet aims to invite all residents of Gentofte and the surrounding area into a welcoming and exciting space.
